Shhhhhh!!! B&D Get "Dr. Phil'ed"

Special Valentine's Day Surprise for the Self-help Guru's Much Watched Show

Los Angeles: It wasn't quite like hearts and cupid dolls broke out all over when Kix Brooks & Ronnie Dunn walked onstage at "The Dr. Phil Show," but the crowd came to their feet in serious appreciation. Country music's
winningest superstar duo were on-hand to perform their very personal "That's What She Gets For Loving Me" as part of one of Dr. Phil (McGraw)'s biggest ever surprises. And quite a surprise for the no hemming and hawing self-help host.

"It's a funny thing about that song," says Ronnie Dunn with a laugh. "When we were doing the first Neon Circus, USA Today did this article about 'The Return of Macho Country' and it just created this sense of... I don't know -- boys will be boys. And then you factor in Janine, who has always been so into Dr. Phil, who talks about getting it. So everything came together to spark 'What She Gets...'

"The next year on Neon Circus, we did the song for a while all stripped down -- and I'd joked about how Dr. Phil didn't think I got it, that my only hope was to write a song or something. Well, it wasn't quite like that; but Dr. Phil and what he has to say is a lot of the inspiration behind the song."

The Dunn's first Dr. Phil McGraw and his family when the personal empowerment and accountability guru gave one of his talks at Nashville's Grand Ole Opry. Ronnie and Janine went as Dr. Phil's guest and struck up a through-the-air friendship, meaning that while not a great amount of time is spent together -- each recognizes and respects the other. It was through those channels that McGraw reached out to the duo for his special Valentine's Edition of an "Ask Dr. Phil & Robin" show, dedicated to fulfilling people's potential -- through making them over, creating more conducive home environments or heightening people's expression of appreciation for each other.

The heavily syndicated show -- reaching approximately 32 million people each day -- airs February 13. Look for an up close and "Behind The Scenes" of this oh so special surprise story to air an "Entertainment Tonight" that same evening.

"When Dr. Phil called, we were only too happy help him pull off this surprise," says Dunn with a laugh.

"Yup, any time we can be a part of helping someone sneak up on someone else, we really like that," enthuses Brooks conspiratorially. "And when the results can be as sweet as what we were a part of today, all the way everyday for our money."

And just what is this bigger than anything Dr. Phil's ever pulled off surprise? "If we told you," said Brooks with a wink, "we'd have to kill you, and the season on that kind of thing closed last week!"

As "That's What She Gets" arrives at country radio today, for a Feb 9 add date, the momentum around this song about giving the person you love everything they deserve on the most important and fundamental level continues mounting. Having been sung on NBC's top-rated prime time series "Vegas" earlier this month, the special Dunn-on-guitar, Brooks-on-harmonica "Dr. Phil" performance heightens the song's potency and evokes the warm intimacy of the most classic singer/songwriter moments.

"Tell your husband ladies -- Brooks & Dunn's Red Dirt Road. Go out and buy it. Play the song. If he doesn't get it (after that), you got bigger problems!" raved McGraw during their appearance. "Put that CD in. Trust me… it WORKS!"

"Dr. Phil" airs Feb. 13, the day after the Red Dirt Road Tour kicks off in Allentown, PA. Until then, there's a Grammy nomination and a new single coming from the 4-time Entertainers of the Year. So, hold on... and don't tell: it's a secret.
