B&D and Blow-Up Dolls and Playboy Magazine
Terri Clark may've taken a pass on the cover of the world's best
loved, best known and (ahem) best read men's magazine, but count on
full-time good-timing Ronnie Dunn and Kix Brooks to sign up for their
own demi-spread in Playboy.
"Just cause Terri doesn't know a good thing, don't mean we don't,"laughs
Dunn, with an eyebrow arched. "Heck, we read those articles. and we know
lots of other people who love the articles, too! So if we wanna reach a
definite segment of our audience, those red blooded guys who love women,
especially their wives, we're gonna go to their ball park and play!"
And sure enough, there the 4-time Entertainers of the Year are --
splattered across the magazine's much read "Grapevine" section, which is
Playboy's wrap-up of what's happening, who's hot and people you should
pay attention to. Captured onstage with their giant inflatable dolls,
who bounce along to "Rock My World (Little Country Girl)" by rock legend
shooter Paul Natkin, it's Brooks & Dunn at their most outrageous.
"Well, you didn't honestly think Playboy would take a picture of Ron and
I without some comely lookin' babes, did you?" adds potent force of
nature showman Brooks. "And when you've got 'em 28 feet tall, wearing
T-shirts that say 'Bad Girls Go Everywhere,' I think the Playboy appeal
is pretty obvious.
"Good thing we did 'Dr. Phil' for Valentine's Day for balance! The way I
see it, you live hard, you play hard, you rock hard. you appreciate what
you got, and you try to have some good clean fun doin' it. If it means
giant inflatable cowgirls, or getting Marilu Henner to be part of your
video, well, then OKAY!"
As the Stonesy "You Can't Take The Honky Tonk Out Of The Girl" settles
into power recurrent rotation next to the CMA - and Grammy-nomination
garnering #1 "Red Dirt Road," "What She Gets" is already starting to
dismantle the charts with its heartfelt reality-based pledge of total
commitment. The Red Dirt Road Tour rolls on -- and now everyone out
there, from special guests Joe Nichols to Josh Turner to tour promoter
Brian O'Connell have a good reason to have Playboy on their bus.
"Well, yeah," adds Dunn. "We're just trying to take care of our tour
mates."
