Ride 'em Ronnie
Ronnie Dunn may know how to rock a giant inflatable rodeo gal, but
don't think the vocal ninja with the tone of neon is going to be leaping
a single bronco with a bucking bound. The man who was recently inducted
into the Oklahoma Music Hall of Fame prefers to do his trick-roping with
that seek-and-destroy voice of his. With the third Neon Circus wound
down and the Red Dirt Road tour kicking up dust starting Feb. 12, Dunn
and his partner Louisiana flash Kix Brooks close out their year with
three stomping dates at the famed Las Vegas Hilton (Dec. 8-10) as part
of the National Finals Rodeo celebration.
"I may've spent a lot of time in Texas, where rodeo is the deal,"
concedes Dunn. "But when you live somewhere it IS that kind of a big
deal, you learn to have a healthy respect for why… and also a healthy
respect for why you're NOT going to be doing any of that."
Kix Brooks -- who's been known to jump a mechanical bull or two, compete
in the occasional cutting horse competition (where wife Barbara rules
the ring!) and is raising bulls for rodeo competition -- feels his pain.
"I go and watch and wonder, 'What in tar makes them DO that?' I mean, I
like to do crazy stuff, too. But those bulls weigh a couple tons and
they're just not in the mood to take ya for a little ride, you know?"
Look for Brooks & Dunn LIVE FROM NEW YORK this Saturday morning, Dec.
6th, as they finally get to do their "Today Weekend" concert
performance. Having originally been scheduled for what ended up being
the August black-out, followed by a scheduling conflict for the network,
the honky tonkinest pair of revved up cowboys are fixing to leave their
brand on the Big Apple. Tune in and watch them take Rockefeller by storm
and steel! (Pedal steel that is)
