Brooks & Dunn Go Four Deep --
Greatest Hits Passes 4 Million Mark on the Brink of Hillbilly Deluxe
Arriving
Nashville:
Some things never seem to go out of style, and so it is with hardcore
honky tonkers Brooks & Dunn. With Hillbilly Deluxe poised to hit the
streets on Aug.30, the rockin'est duo in the history of country music
gets word that their music just keeps selling and selling and selling
and selling -- with their Greatest Hits being certified quadruple
platinum for sales in excess of 4 million copies.
"You know when you get to sing these songs every night, you really come
to understand that these songs were built to last," says Ronnie Dunn of
the rafter-scraping power-vocals. "You don't always realize it when
you're in the thick of it… but time kind of lets you know. And, of
course, the fans, which is what makes the fact that this (Greatest Hits)
getting past 4 million so cool."
"When we came out, we weren't even sure we were gonna make a second
record," admits high-flying, low-slung guitarman Kix Brooks. "To still
be here, especially with these songs, well, that -- and our fans -- says
a lot to me about the reasons why we do what we do."
Indeed, with their first 5 singles going straight to #1 -- including
"Brand New Man," "Neon Moon" and "Boot Scoot Boogie" -- and a slew of
songs that defined 21st century honky tonk, Brooks & Dunn brought
swagger and industrial strength grit to the radio. And it's a pattern
that's continued right through "Play Something Country," the fastest
moving single in a history of fast moving singles as well as a rallying
cry for all the musical elements that define this unlikely, yet potent
pair.
"I'd like to think we make songs that're right up the pipeline for the
people who've been here throughout our career, and that they're turning
their friends on, too," says Brooks. "Because the records, new and old,
keep selling, and the faces at the shows keep showing up and singing
along, which to me is the test of a song's wearability."
With every album, well-past platinum, Brooks & Dunn also remain
Nashville's best stake for a heavy metal duo. The multiple Grammy
winners and 4-time Entertainers of the Year wear well - and continue
breaking new ground. For Hillbilly Deluxe, they enlisted noted music man
Tony Brown to produce and rounded up writers from Larry Willoughby and
Hank Devito to Radney Foster and Darrell Brown, in addition to stellar
contributions from Brooks and Dunn along with co-writers Bob DiPiero,
Craig Wiseman and Terry McBride.
Look for Brooks & Dunn on "Good Morning America" on Hillbilly Deluxe
street date Aug. 30, as well as on their Deuce's Wild Tour, featuring
Big & Rich and the Warren Brothers kicking off Aug 6 in Dallas. |
