Brooks & Dunn Go Full-Tilt Hillbilly Deluxe
Winningest, Heavy Metal Country Duo Release Tony Brown-Produced CD
August 30
Nashville: They've had a balloon-blowing goat, an Elvis impersonator,
Toby Keith, Cledus T. Judd and Dwight Yoakam -- among so many other
reality-based tour mates -- in pursuit of higher drama and bigger kicks,
so it's no surprise that this year, Ronnie Dunn and Kix Brooks went for
the slammin'est duos they could get their hands on to raise the stakes
and stake their claim on the jammin'est Saturday night special they've
stood and delivered. Nothing is too crazed, dazed or blowed-up to
disqualify itself from consideration when Brooks & Dunn take the
highway.
To that end, the 28-million-selling 4-time Entertainers of the Year have
enlisted Muzik Mafia mainstays Big & Rich, who understand the pragmatic
thrill that is "Save A Horse (Ride A Cowboy)," and those always
out-of-bounds, utterly out-of-control prankster/rockin' country boys the
Warren Brothers. Three pairs make for the house going wild -- and Brooks
& Dunn wouldn't have it any other way for their Deuce's Wild march
across America.
"Anybody that's ever been to one of our shows knows it's not about
having a good time," confides low-flying stage duster Kix Brooks, out of
the corner of his mouth, "it's about how good a time you can have.
Because if you're not getting to some new kind of 'yeah…,' we're not
showing the fans a good enough night."
"Plus," Dunn concurs, "everybody we've got out there this year is about
the championship party. But at the same time, they begin and end with
the music. It's all well and good to fly from a trapeze, but you gotta
have the 'go' to back it up -- and these guys do. We've had some pretty
big fun on our tours, but I'm thinking between the pranks and the
performing, this could be a whole new kinda country getting cooked up
out there."
With Hillbilly Deluxe, produced by the legendary Elvis/Emmylou
Harris/George Strait veteran music man Tony Brown, heading for stores
August 30th, this is Brooks & Dunn set on stun. "Play Something
Country," the seek-and-destroy Saturday night siren's call for every
honky tonk in America, continues burning up the charts - and the rest of
the record maintains the same high intensity, whether it's the grinding
title track, the Vince Gill/Sheryl Crow redux of Larry Willoughby's
seminal "Building Bridges," which Dunn sang during his tenure in the
clubs of Oklahoma while waiting on his dream, the Brooks' emancipation
meltdown "Get Out of Town" or Dunn's breath-catching witness about the
power of God to transcend generations, the mortal coil and the every day
doubts that silently erode the things that matter "I Believe," this is
B&D at their most China Syndrome, and that high honky tonk fervor suits
them well.
And the Deuce's Wild Tour will reflect that same full-tilt unbridled
approach to music. As Dunn offers, "We told John and Kenny, whatever
they wanted, they could have it. We weren't gonna fence them into a
little piece of the stage and two spotlights -- so they're free to bring
whatever they got to rock our fans. We figure the more they throw down,
the bigger the night's gonna be. And the Warren Brothers are just flat
crazy… can't even think about predicting what they're gonna do, and why
would you want to? Kix and I are gonna bring lawn chairs just to sit and
watch it all meltdown and blow up."
In the meantime, B&D will continue playing isolated festivals. Look for
plenty of new music this year, and a stage that once again brings modern
aesthetics and clean line to a look that reflects their Big West, High
Country performing zone. As Brooks says, "You know us… always something.
We can't wait to show it off."
